I'm feeling some pressure to optimize™ my social media presence.

There are so many cool platforms to try out!

There's been a lot more activity in ATProto applications, lately, I feel like, and even though I've been trying to post on Bluesky less I am interested in the technology behind it and the other things it can be used for, so I've been poking around on those things as well. One person does not need one million blogs but I guess it's not hurting anybody either to have them?

For instance, I realized all the embed and formatting options made Leaflet.pub a nice option for my knitting notes. When I'm finished with a project I can publish the post! Amazing!

Knitting project notes from knit-worthy: "I’ve made this sweater before, not that she’s grown out of it my daughter has requested another larger sweater and I want Artie to have a matching one."

Meanwhile pckt.blog and bookhive.buzz make for nice little phone apps if you save them as home screen shortcuts, as I hae now done.

pckt and BookHive, and their icons.

I’ve decided I prefer the user interface of Witchsky to Bluesky so I made a shortcut for that, too. I want to make use of their tag system especially to track my knitting projects and photography and stuff.

I am also seriously considering self-hosting my PDS, which means I won’t actually be on Bluesky in any meaningful sense anymore (even though that's surely how I'd word it to some innocent person questioning where to find me on social media in the real world). I don’t have many reservations about Bluesky the company, honestly, this is almost entirely for the coolness factor. Some things I self-host because of anti-big tech reasons but other things are just because I have the capacity and it is cool.

It's still kind of a redundant and chaotic set up and I'm not entirely sure I'm using my domains in the most efficient way. But I think I can just chill with these services now and see which end up capturing my attention. I did this with email over a period of a couple of years: I got a domain and moved between three services, and now I can't imagine quitting Fastmail because to me it is perfect. It's "weird" not to just use Gmail like everybody else and likewise it's "weird" to not just set up shop on Instagram and call it good, so it's maybe not a surprise it takes some adjusting to figure out how to do social Internet without the big companies, too.
